Jingjin Electric: Showcasing Electrification Innovation at Auto Shanghai, Embarking on a New Global Market Journey

2025/04/30 Buses
Auto Shanghai serves as a pivotal window to observe transformations in the automotive industry. As a "trailblazer" in electric drive systems, Yu Ping, Chairman of Jingjin Electric, boasts over three decades of industry experience and has witnessed China's automotive sector evolve from a follower to an innovation leader.

Technological Innovation: Pioneering Breakthroughs in Electrification

Jingjin Electric, a seasoned player in the electric drive sector since its inception in 2008, has progressively expanded its capabilities from motor manufacturing to comprehensive system development. At Auto Shanghai, the company's 300kW four-in-one electric drive system stole the spotlight. By integrating a groundbreaking "direct-magnetic" mechanical differential lock, the system outperforms multinational counterparts in technical specifications and has been deployed in BAIC Group's off-road models. Additionally, Jingjin unveiled the world's first "lock-clutch integrated" differential, a fusion of electromagnetic clutch and differential technologies that reduces costs by approximately one-third while passing rigorous vehicle-level validation. As a pioneer in the global range extender market, the company has launched three generations of range extender systems, projecting a market size exceeding RMB 20 billion ($2.75 billion) for range extender generators globally over the next five years.

Global Market Strategy: Balancing Domestic and International Expansion

Jingjin Electric has adhered to a globalization strategy since its early days, primarily exporting to the U.S. market and establishing itself as a renowned electrification brand in North America. Domestically, it has forged long-term partnerships with mainstream automakers including BAIC, FAW Group, and SAIC Motor. While international and domestic revenues were evenly split in 2023, overseas sales accounted for roughly one-third in 2024. However, Europe and the U.S. remain critical growth engines. The company recently secured a contract to supply a top-five global automotive group with three-in-one electric drive systems for the European market, with mass production slated for 2027. In North America, Jingjin achieved a major breakthrough in electric drive axle systems for full-size pickup trucks—a high-margin, high-barrier segment. By integrating oil-cooled hairpin motors, silicon carbide controllers, and proprietary technologies like differential locks and electromagnetic clutches, the system will commence production at Jingjin's North American facility in 2027, targeting one of the region's most iconic pickup brands.

Profitability Transformation: From Revenue Growth to Sustainable Margins

Despite reporting losses in its 2024 annual report, Jingjin Electric achieved a historic turnaround in Q1 2025, swinging to profitability and optimizing cash flow. Centered on "quality enhancement and efficiency improvement," the company aims to expand its high-end market presence domestically and internationally, strengthen cost controls, and sustain innovation-driven growth to boost per-unit product margins. With China's new energy vehicle (NEV) penetration rate projected to reach 55% by 2025, Jingjin Electric is poised to leverage its partnerships with leading passenger and commercial vehicle OEMs and technological edge to solidify its leadership in global electrification markets. The company is committed to becoming a long-term industry champion and delivering substantial returns to investors.
