China Light Truck Sales Rise 3% in June; Foton Maintains Market Lead

Light truck sales in China reached 168,200 units in June, up 3% from a year earlier, marking the segment’s fifth consecutive month of year-on-year growth. Foton Motor retained its position as the top seller, while rankings among the top 10 manufacturers saw notable shifts.

Light trucks, which accounted for the largest portion of the commercial truck market, trailed the overall market’s 8% growth in June, which totaled 316,200 units. Still, the segment outperformed medium trucks, which declined 30%, and mini trucks, down 10% in June. Heavy truck sales surged 37% in the same period.

Cumulative light truck sales for the first half of 2025 totaled 1.036 million units, a 7% increase from the same period last year. That compares with a 2% rise in the overall truck market. June’s volume placed fourth among June sales over the past decade, while the January-to-June figure ranked second for the same time frame in the last 10 years.

Foton led June sales with 36,300 units, capturing 21.56% of the market. Changan followed with 15,300 units, climbing three spots to second place. Other leading brands included Dongfeng (14,300 units), JMC (13,800), JAC (13,500), Great Wall (13,200), and Farizon (11,000). Each held between 6.5% and 9% of the market.

SINOTRUK, Maxus, and Shineray rounded out the top 10, each selling over 7,500 units. The 10 largest manufacturers together accounted for 83.95% of June’s light truck market, with the top five responsible for over 55%.

Six of the top 10 companies recorded year-over-year growth in June. Farizon and Maxus posted gains of 66% and 60%, respectively, while JMC rose 19%, Sinotruk 12%, Shineray 16%, and BYD saw a sharp increase of 447% year on year.

Though the top 10 manufacturers remained the same as in May, rankings shifted. In addition to Changan’s move to second, Dongfeng and JMC each advanced up to three places. Sinotruk and Maxus also gained ground. Foton held steady at the top.

From January through June, Foton maintained its lead with 229,000 units sold, representing 22.11% of the market. Great Wall, JAC, Dongfeng, and Changan each reported over 90,000 units sold, with market shares ranging from 8.7% to 9.3%. JMC, Farizon, Sinotruk, and Shineray each surpassed 50,000 units.

Farizon and BYD led the first-half growth rates at 87% and 1,474%, respectively. Sinotruk and Maxus recorded gains of 21% and 23%. While Foton, JAC, and JMC also posted year-over-year growth, their increases fell below the market average.

Compared with the first half of 2024, Farizon and BYD expanded their market shares by 2.36 and 2.43 percentage points, respectively. Sinotruk and Maxus also registered slight gains, while three unnamed companies saw their shares fall by more than one point.

In terms of rankings compared with the end of 2024, Foton, JMC (6th), Sinotruk (8th), and Maxus (10th) held their positions. Great Wall and JAC each moved up two spots to second and third place, while Farizon rose to seventh. Several other brands slipped in the rankings.
