Golden Dragon Electric Buses Enhance Public Transport Experience in Ethiopia

2025/09/16 Buses

On the streets of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 102 Golden Dragon electric city buses from Xiamen are not just vehicles; they are vivid testimonies of China-Africa cooperation. Join us as we follow the reporter on a bus tour of Addis Ababa to experience the changes brought by “Chinese intelligent manufacturing.”

In April of this year, Golden Dragon delivered these green-colored electric buses to the Addis Ababa Public Transport Service Corporation. Several months later, these green buses now cover almost all the main roads of Addis Ababa. Nearly 100 buses run 204 trips daily, weaving the densest public transport network in the area. From the scholarly district of Addis Ababa University to the historical corners of the Ethiopian National Museum, and on to the Friendship Square of the Shager Park built with Chinese aid and the bustling Meskel Square, following Bole Road and Emperor Menelik II Avenue, this “Xiamen Green” has become a familiar Chinese symbol for the local people.

Unlike the noisy engines and exhaust fumes of traditional fuel buses, the Golden Dragon electric buses offer a quiet and comfortable travel experience and have also made significant environmental contributions. Since their operation in April, they have reduced carbon emissions by about 12,000 tons, equivalent to the annual carbon absorption of 60,000 trees. Many local passengers have said that the new buses have no diesel smell or noise, and with air conditioning, the travel experience is very good.
