Data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers shows that total truck sales (including chassis and tractors) reached 271,600 units in August, up 3% from July and 17% year-on-year. Heavy trucks accounted for 91,600 of these sales, 8% higher than the previous month.
August is usually a slow season for heavy trucks. Over the past decade, average sales for the month were around 68,400 units, and sales above 90,000 occurred only twice. This makes August 2025’s result particularly notable — the third-highest in the past ten years and the best in the last five.
From January to August, heavy truck sales totaled 715,700 units, up 14% year-on-year, an increase of about 90,500 units. Monthly sales averaged nearly 90,000 units, well above the levels in 2024 and 2023. At this pace, full-year sales are on track to surpass 1 million units.
Five companies each sold more than 10,000 heavy trucks in August. SINOTRUK led the market with 25,600 units, followed by FAW TRUCKS (17,300), Dongfeng (14,400), SHACMAN (14,000), and Foton (12,400). Together, these five companies controlled more than 91% of the market. Other notable players included XCMG, Farizon, BAIC Heavy Truck, JAC, and Chery, with sales ranging from 600 to 2,900 units.
All top ten companies reported year-on-year growth. Foton and Chery posted the fastest gains, surging 172% and 237% respectively. SINOTRUK, XCMG, and Farizon also grew faster than the overall market, while FAW TRUCKS and Dongfeng each rose by more than 40%. Notably, Foton, Farizon, XCMG, and BAIC Heavy Truck have all delivered eight straight months of year-on-year growth, with Foton doubling its sales for three months in a row.
For the first eight months of 2025, SINOTRUK topped the rankings with 197,100 units sold. FAW TRUCKS, SHACMAN, Dongfeng, and Foton followed, each posting sales between 90,000 and 130,000 units. XCMG, JAC, Farizon, BAIC Heavy Truck, and Chery rounded out the top ten. Among them, Chery, Foton, XCMG, and Farizon delivered the fastest growth, ranging from 75% to 127%. Foton also achieved the biggest market share gain, up 5 percentage points from last year.
Looking ahead, September and October are traditionally strong months for the industry, known as “Golden September and Silver October.” With demand expected to remain firm, the heavy truck market’s growth streak is likely to continue.
