BYD Launches e-Bus Platform 3.0, Driving Electric Buses to Surpass Diesel in Performance

2025/09/18 Buses

On September 15th, the “BYD e-Bus Platform 3.0 Launch and New Bus Debut” event was held in Hangzhou, where the third-generation electric bus technology platform was officially unveiled. BYD introduced the industry’s first kilovolt platform for electric buses, propelling the sector towards a future where electric power outperforms diesel. The event also saw the launch of the C11, a new electric bus built on this platform, accelerating the electrification of road passenger transport. The release of the e-Bus Platform 3.0 marks another breakthrough for BYD in bus technology, setting a new benchmark for new energy bus technology and injecting strong momentum into the global electrification of buses.

Since initiating the development of new energy commercial vehicles in 2008, BYD has invested over 14 billion yuan in R&D over the past 17 years, with a research team now exceeding 7,000 people. As the only company mastering the core new energy technologies of “three-electric systems and one chip” and the only one consistently focused on new energy commercial vehicles, BYD’s e-Bus platform has undergone three iterations, breaking through technical limitations once again to achieve “electricity stronger than diesel.”

At the launch event, Tian Chulong, General Manager of BYD Commercial Vehicle Division, stated: “This is our fulfillment of the commitment to ‘accelerate bus electrification,’ a return on our pursuit of ‘creating more value for users,’ and a steadfast commitment to ‘green achievements for a better life.’”

The e-Bus Platform 3.0 represents a comprehensive and revolutionary innovation, focusing on three core areas: safety, efficiency, and intelligence. The platform introduces the world’s first mass-produced 1,000V high-voltage architecture for buses, with drive, charging and power distribution, and air conditioning systems all upgraded to 1,000V. It features the world’s highest 1,500V silicon carbide power chips and the industry’s first 1,000V electric drive axle for buses. Combined with a multi-heat-source coupled seven-in-one thermal management system, the overall energy consumption of the vehicle can be reduced by up to 18%, and the low-temperature range at -15°C can be increased by 50-80km.

In terms of safety, the platform revolutionarily adopts the world’s first bus battery chassis integration technology (CTC), deeply integrating the industry’s thinnest bus-specific blade batteries with the chassis frame. The battery pack features ten layers of protection and can withstand the crushing of a 50-ton heavy truck and more than four times the national standard of compression, significantly enhancing the overall safety and space utilization of the vehicle.

Regarding intelligence, the new generation of electronic and electrical architecture efficiently integrates intelligence and electrification, achieving efficient coordination and intelligent control of the chassis, drive, and body control. It introduces exclusive new energy bus body control systems such as Bus Cloud Ride A, Bus iTAC intelligent torque control system, high-speed blowout stability system (TBC), and driver disability assistance system 2.0, significantly improving handling stability, ride smoothness, comfort, and vehicle safety.

The newly launched C11, with a length of 11 meters, is built on the e-Bus Platform 3.0 and can achieve a range of over 400km under full load and air conditioning conditions. Its performance in safety, efficiency, and comfort far exceeds that of diesel buses. The C11 is the first to be equipped with Bus Cloud Ride A, which can effectively alleviate motion sickness by smoothing out continuous bumps. Combined with environmentally friendly materials, efficient ventilation, humanized temperature control, and NVH noise reduction engineering, it creates a comfortable driving and riding environment. The vehicle, with its outstanding performance, can adapt to a variety of operational environments, including high temperature, high cold, high altitude, mountainous areas, cities, and rural areas.

BYD Commercial Vehicles has won the championship for new energy bus exports for two consecutive years. Currently, its footprint covers more than 400 cities in over 70 countries and regions across six continents. In the future, BYD Commercial Vehicles will continue to adhere to the collaboration between passenger and commercial vehicles. Based on the e-Bus Platform 3.0, it will launch a richer range of electric bus products, work with partners, and continue to promote the global electrification of buses, contributing to reducing the Earth’s temperature by 1°C.
