Ankai Electric Buses: Green Power for Nigeria

2026/05/14 Buses
Green mobility empowers West Africa, just as quality service keeps moving forward to empower North Africa.

On May 12, a fleet of Ankai electric buses stood ready for shipment to Nigeria. The delivery of these high‑quality electric buses will reshape Nigeria’s traditional public transport landscape, bringing local residents a quiet, comfortable and eco‑friendly travel experience and adding a striking touch of “Chinese Red” to streets across West Africa.

Tailored Solutions to Address Local Operational Challenges

Nigeria is undergoing rapid urbanization and public transport upgrading. Faced with growing urban pollution and energy transition pressure, local authorities are actively promoting green and low‑carbon policies and encouraging the adoption of clean energy in public transport. However, extreme heat, high humidity, sandstorms and rough road conditions impose strict requirements on the adaptability and durability of imported vehicles.

To tackle these challenges, Ankai Bus conducted in‑depth research into local operating conditions and developed customized pure‑electric bus solutions for this export order. Adopting a fully integrated body structure with high overall strength and strong torsion resistance, the buses can withstand long‑term bumpy rides on uneven roads, greatly enhancing driving safety and extending service life with robust quality suited to harsh environments.

For the three‑electric system, the vehicles are equipped with high‑capacity, high‑performance CATL batteries featuring high energy density and long driving range, perfectly matching Nigeria’s high‑intensity, long‑hour urban bus operations. Powered by Ankai’s self‑developed permanent magnet synchronous motors, which are specially optimized with anti‑condensation and anti‑sand structures, the buses deliver strong power and quick response while maintaining high energy efficiency amid frequent start‑stops in urban traffic.

Beyond top‑notch reliability, passenger experience is prioritized. Spacious and bright interiors, paired with high‑power roof‑mounted single‑cooling air conditioners, create a cool and comfortable riding environment, opening a new chapter of high‑quality mobility for local people.

China‑Africa Partnership for Better Public Transport

From the hinterland of Jianghuai to the land of West Africa, Ankai buses travel across mountains and seas. Responding to the Belt and Road Initiative, Ankai Bus continues to deepen its presence in the African market, supporting local transport infrastructure upgrades with premium vehicles and localized services. So far, Ankai products have entered multiple African countries, including South Africa, Kenya, Ghana and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with thousands of units exported, becoming a distinctive symbol of Chinese manufacturing across Africa.

As a core West African market, Nigeria is a key focus of Ankai’s global layout. Rooted in the Nigerian market for years, Ankai has accurately identified local transport demands. Previously, bulk deliveries of natural gas buses have helped optimize local energy structures and improve air quality, winning wide recognition from customers and the public for their stable and reliable performance.

This bulk delivery of electric buses marks a new milestone in bilateral cooperation and a major step for Ankai in advancing green transport in Africa. Once put into service, the new buses will greatly boost urban public transport capacity, cut carbon emissions and inject new momentum into Nigeria’s clean, efficient and sustainable urban mobility system.

Looking ahead, riding the global new energy wave, Ankai Bus will further expand its footprint in Africa and overseas markets. With advanced technologies, reliable products and comprehensive services, Ankai shares the benefits of green mobility with people worldwide, taking Chinese buses to broader global horizons.
