Chinese automaker GAC officially entered the UK market on May 28, marking a new step in its European expansion strategy. The company also opened its first AION Auto UK flagship store in London and unveiled the AION V, one of its key global electric vehicle models, to British consumers for the first time.
The launch comes as GAC accelerates its international growth plans and expands its presence across Europe. The UK, one of the region's largest and most competitive automotive markets, is expected to play an important role in the company's overseas development strategy.
To support its operations in the country, GAC has partnered with ALJ International, a global automotive distribution group. The two companies will work together to establish local sales and service operations and provide long-term support for customers in the UK market.
The AION V was the centerpiece of the launch event. Developed as a global model, the electric SUV combines advanced safety technologies, intelligent features, and practical everyday usability.
Built on a dedicated electric vehicle platform, the AION V features a 2,775 mm wheelbase, providing a spacious interior while maintaining maneuverability for urban driving. The vehicle's design adopts a futuristic styling approach aimed at meeting the preferences of international customers.
Safety is a key focus of the model. The AION V is equipped with GAC's Magazine Battery 2.0 technology, which the company says has been validated through more than one million vehicles in operation worldwide. The vehicle also features a high-strength steel body structure, seven airbags as standard, and Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems. In addition, it has received a five-star safety rating under the 2025 Euro NCAP assessment standards.
Inside the cabin, the vehicle offers a digital cockpit with multilingual support, voice control, online navigation, and over-the-air software updates. The AION V delivers a WLTP-certified driving range of up to 510 kilometers and can charge from 10% to 80% in 24 minutes using fast-charging technology.
For customers in the UK, GAC AION has introduced the "AION Great 8" ownership program, which includes eight customer support services such as vehicle warranty coverage, scheduled maintenance, roadside assistance, and MOT inspection support. The package provides coverage for up to eight years.
The UK launch follows GAC's broader efforts to strengthen its European footprint. The company said it will leverage its expanding dealer network, a parts distribution center in the Netherlands, local service capabilities, and supporting infrastructure across Europe as it continues to grow its presence in the region.
As GAC advances its global strategy, the UK market is expected to serve as one of its key hubs for future development in Europe.
