After a periodic pullback in April, the bus market posted growth both year-on-year and month-on-month in May. This signals that the industry is steadily getting back on track, with its resilience set to strengthen further.
May Market: Zhongtong & Ankai See Robust Growth; Geely Leads in YoY & MoM Gains
The May sales ranking for buses over 6 meters showed a clear pattern: stable top players, shifting mid-tier brands, and divergent bottom performers.
Yutong Bus retained its No.1 position with sales of 2,757 units, up 6.00% year-on-year and 2.00% month-on-month, capturing a 30.06% market share. Backed by consistent delivery schedules and well-established distribution networks, Yutong maintained the composure and resilience befitting an industry leader amid market volatility.
Zhongtong Bus took second place with 1,442 units sold, soaring 108.68% year-on-year and climbing 6.03% month-on-month, holding a 15.72% market share and demonstrating strong competitiveness.
Ankai Bus jumped from fourth place in April to third in May with 814 units sold, growing 62.15% year-on-year and 21.31% month-on-month for an 8.87% market share, emerging as a key growth driver.
Geely Commercial Vehicles rocketed out of the top 10 in April to secure fourth place in May with 779 units sold, skyrocketing 198.47% year-on-year and 468.61% month-on-month to claim an 8.49% market share. As the biggest dark horse of May, Geely delivered a standout performance that drew widespread attention.
Higer Bus ranked fifth with 597 units sold, accounting for a 6.51% market share.
Among the top 10 manufacturers, five—including Zhongtong, Ankai, and Yutong—achieved positive year-on-year growth, with Geely posting the highest at 198.47%.
On a month-on-month basis, six manufacturers—including Ankai, Zhongtong, Golden Dragon, and Yutong—registered rising sales. Geely also led all brands in month-on-month growth at 468.61%.
The five manufacturers that recorded positive year-on-year growth also posted simultaneous YoY and MoM gains in May. These enterprises clearly possess strong risk resistance and stable operational performance, serving as core pillars fueling the market's steady recovery.
